About the Tournament

Harald Gunderson was a friend, supporter and historian for funeral service in Canada. He was the founding publisher of Canadian Funeral News and Gunderson’s Funeral Journal and authored provincial history books on funeral service for Alberta, British Columbia, Atlantic Canada and Manitoba. He left family, friends, and colleagues as the age of 83, in August of 2012.

Harald avidly attended the AFSA golf tournaments enjoying the fun on the links and social comradery.  He was often quoting poetry or singing a ditty while snapping pictures for his publication.

The Alberta Funeral Service Association Board of Directors has recommended and was voted on by the membership following his passing that the Annual “Cappy” Smart Golf Tournament be renamed in his honour. The “Cappy” Smart Trophy will remain a part of the tournament.
