An understanding of the difference between Grief and Depression.
Dr. Stephen Fleming states that medication for depression is helpful but medication for grief is not helpful and can confuse and lengthen the grieving process. Although the symptoms may be the same the world view is different.
A helpful “rule of thumb”
Depression: A person regards themselves as useless, worthless, unworthy, speaks of suicide and struggles internally with self
Grief: A person regards the world and their surroundings, people and relationships as lifeless, dull, gray and not interesting however, they do not speak of suicide
